The Great Escapist

Always remember that autumn days
And conversations like this one
Are the reasons you're alone
The reasons your makeup runs
The reasons you're running home

Away from a world we both know
Was built for the bold

And the days when you wake up
And you feel like you're a thousand years old
Would you rather remember
That you kissed me hard tonight
Or let me go

Because in the end what's really worth remembering:
The bridges we burned or the lips we left smouldering?

Believe you me there will be
Words you'll wish you'd said
The claws of consequence
The teeth of I-told-you-so's
The sentences fear turned to lead
On tongues young love (or lust) had turned to gold

About bridges we burn
vs lips we leave smouldering

While hearts have their way of wondering
Which wings you'll take
In your next great escape.
